I will not complain. I will not complain. I will not complain.
Today was a much better day, mostly because the winds died down in mid morning and only did the helpful wind thing- cooling me off in the afternoon. We did another 15 mile day but I have to admit I was hurting mightily from 10 miles on. I don't know why I'm not getting stronger, in the sense of being able to longer days with more comfort. Tomorrow is a short 10 mile day but the next day needs to be a 24 mile day, walking across the Antelope Valley in one go. Mostly due to there not being water for many, many miles. At this point I don't think I can hike 24 miles on my feet. What to do...?
On the upside I passed not one, not two, but three different signs (in different places) saying I had reached the 500 mile mark. Let me see, 500 three times, hum... that must make 1,500 miles! How do you like my math?
Now listen my friend. You are a Santa Cruz (ok a little inland)kid who gains no joy from heat. You've got a major growth on the ball of your foot that looks gross and feels like S _ _ _! Believe me, you ARE getting stronger and your results are Just Around The Next Bend! This too shall pass. Have you considered padding around the blister or cutting a hole in your insole so the blister doesn't get the full impact when you step? Just a thought.
ReplyDeleteI will not complain. I will not complain. I will not complain. Five hundred miles in a little over a month sounds great to me. I think it took me a year to walk that far. Twenty-four miles in one day sounds tough but if anyone can do it, you can. Go get 'em, Tiger.
ReplyDeleteHmm, let's just take a look at this situation. A how many year old woman?, on trail for one month-ish and walking 500+ miles, to date, in all sorts of circumstances, including wind which is just the worst. What's a little complaining? I say you've earned as much as you'd like. Just keep in mind that complaining takes quite a bit of energy, and generally doesn't do a bit of good, in the end.
ReplyDeleteYou're AMAZING!! Just keep on keepin' on. (Cristie, again, and still anon.)
