Gear List 2017

When I finally did the number crunching this afternoon I found my base weight was going to be 14 pounds on the dot. While I suspected this would be true, I was shocked and appalled to see it up close and personal. So did some scrambling around, switched out some items for lighter options and eliminated other things altogether. Like my cook set. I decided I didn't need hot food during August and I would wait till I reached South Lake Tahoe to have the capacity to heat food. So I'll box up my pot and stove and send them off tomorrow. Phew! That gets me to 2 pounds 14 ounces, substantially better than 14 pounds. It is possible that I can eliminate some additional weight between now and Saturday morning but we will see. I hate carrying a heavy pack!

Here are all the items I'm taking. Some I will carry on my back and some will be in my pack. I count walking poles as worn since they are never in my pack.

This is a tedious process but crucial if you want to eliminate as much weight as possible from your pack. It is way, way too easy to just toss random items in the pack at the last minute. For me at least.

(Don't know why the charts are different sizes. User error no doubt.)
